WAFTA, Round 1, Summer League, Blaenau Gwent

On April 26, 2010, in Air Gunning, by Sinist@r.Ice

The first shoot of the WAFTA summer league was on Sunday 25/04/10 at the Blaenau Gwent FT Club.

We got to the club around 11:30am and quite surprisingly it was dry :) so the day was looking to be a good one. Along with the dryness the wind was pretty calm for the club.

Well things got off to a good start until we hit the uphill targets which was a bit of a struggle for a couple of us due to the extra pounds being carried on the front lol. We then got onto the windy bit which really couldn’t make it’s mind up and the pellets started going everywhere.

At the end of the course I was surprised by my score of 19 and very happy with myself :)

Anyway at the end of the shoot we headed out to get back early so we missed the results. Later on my phone goes off telling me I have new a e-mail and contained within this to my much surprise I take second place in C grade.

Full results can be found here:  http://www.wafta.co.uk/uploaded/wafta_summer_2010.xls

So the day turned out to be pretty good. Stroll on the next shoot time to pull all stops out and get me a first place :D

Airgun shooting as a sport…Why people shy from it??

On February 4, 2010, in Air Gunning, by Sinist@r.Ice

Ok so sitting in work talking to some of my colleagues about stuff you talk about when bored lol well everyone talked about what they done on the weekend most of them how drunk they got and the stupid things they got upto, so I thought I’d mention the new air rifle that I bought (Air Arms MPR-FT left handed), as soon as I did the conversation went quiet as in them not approving of shooting as a sport. I seem to get this alot lately when talking to people.

I find that most of them have never fired an air gun and have no ideas on how big the sport is now coming. The only time you every see shooting on TV it’s cause of something bad that’s happened. In th UK more people are killed from being hit by a car or even taking drugs.

Shooting is an Olympic sport and is highly disciplined. I’ve found that youngsters (Myself included when I was classed as a youngster lol) are a lot less likely to get into trouble in a serious way due to the discipline taught with the safe handling of firearms including air guns.

The reason for this post is that I’m completely and utterly FED UP of the public opinion towards guns. Why can’t the press cover the sport and show the good side.

Internet Explorer strikes again…!!!!

On January 15, 2010, in Tech Stuff, by Sinist@r.Ice

So Microsoft’s Internet Explorer vast caverns of bugs strikes again. Microsoft has admitted that a bug in Internet Explorer 6 cause the last hacks against googlemail which has lead to Google looking at pulling out of China. Link to the BBC news website below:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8460819.stm

This really does stress the urge to move to a more secure browser. I highly recommend Firefox which again does have it’s bugs just like EVERY piece of software known to mankind but is alot more secure as it does not allow you to run activex components which can contain very harmful code.

There are quite a few alternatives available the majority being completely free. A good list of available browser can be found a the following link:

http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/design/browsers_list.php3

Also the use of anti-virus/internet security suites is now highly recommended again there is quite few packages to choose from on the internet, the one I currently use and cannot complain about as it takes up alot less resources than most is C.O.M.O.D.O also is free, is available here: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html

A good list of available packages out there is available on the Wikipedia site:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_antivirus_software

But even with these please try and be virilant towards what you view on the web and do not give out personal details to anyone you do not trust or understand fully.

Something soooooo funny…well for techy’s anyway.

On January 14, 2010, in Tech Stuff, by Sinist@r.Ice

So was reading the BBC news today and there’s an article about a technology survey on there located here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8458880.stm

The bit that really got my sides going was this:

One in ten respondents to the light-hearted survey thought that a wireless dongle was a sex toy and 6% affirmed that VHD (Virtual Hard Disk) was a sexually transmitted disease.

Well I’ve never heard them called tha before and i’ve heard a few unusual descriptions.

Pondering the future….

On January 11, 2010, in Random Blurb, by Sinist@r.Ice

So sitting here in work pondering on where I want to go from here. I’d like to get more technical possible move into development, but the biggest question is how am I going to achieve it.

Do i find a project with someone to help me along the way or think of my own project and just learn as i develop it. I have been thinking more to the later as I will learn my own way of coding rather than learning someone else’s. Now the big question what can I do as a project and what language to go with.
